What is happening in the world clearly demonstrates the relevance of the lessons of the Great Patriotic War and the victory of the Soviet people. Such a statement was made by Russian ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin, who is participating in the “Immortal Regiment” NGO’s march in Yerevan.

“This is relevant both politically and morally. Forgetting the lessons of history and the exploits of our ancestors, we condemn ourselves to repeating the tragedy,” the Russian diplomat emphasized.

He added that for the peoples of the ex-USSR, for each and every person, this is a personal holiday because in the former republics of the USSR, there is probably not a single family that has not suffered from the Great Patriotic War, and it is very important that many young people come. According to him, this, in addition to the memory of the exploits of ancestors, is a connection between generations, the core that helps people succeed in a complex world.

When asked what should be done to avoid a repeat of world wars, the Russian ambassador noted: “Efforts have now intensified to review the results of the war, rewrite history, and justify those who committed terrible crimes against humanity. Some would like us to forget the exploits of our ancestors. But we are obligated to defend the truth, and it is the struggle for the truth that will help solve the problems we face.”

Regarding Armenian-Russian relations which are experiencing a difficult period, the Russian diplomat said that they are based on deep, strong ties. The two peoples are united by their shared victory in the Great Patriotic War, the exploits of their ancestors, and the sacrifices of the two peoples.

“That is why it is very important that we preserve memory in Armenia, Russia, and other countries. It is nice to see so many people with portraits of their ancestors. This gives reason for optimism, despite the problems we face,” concluded the Russian ambassador.
