Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan met with European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the sidelines of the sixth regular Summit of the European Political Community in Tirana, Albania, the PM’s office informed.

During the meeting, agenda matters aimed at deepening Armenia-European Union (EU) relations were discussed, and the importance of the continuous development of bilateral cooperation was emphasized, especially in the strengthening of democracy, economic integration, infrastructure modernization, and reforms. Nikol Pashinyan highly appreciated the consistent support of the EU for the reforms being implemented in Armenia, and stressed the readiness of the Armenian government to continue deepening cooperation with the EU, ensuring a new and effective phase of cooperation.

The presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, in turn, reaffirmed their support for Armenia’s democratic progress, and welcomed the positive steps being taken by the country to ensure regional peace and stability. Also, Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen welcomed and considered an important step the passing of the law on the launch of the process of Armenia’s accession to the EU.

Also, they emphasized the importance of accelerating the visa liberalization process on both sides. In addition, the EU representatives welcomed the agreement on the text of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, underlining its importance for ensuring regional security and stability. They stressed the EU’s readiness to continue supporting the peace process and promoting long-term stability in the region.

Reference was made also to the Armenian government’s Crossroads of Peace project. Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen welcomed this project, and underscored the unblocking of regional communication channels. The parties highlighted the importance of the continuation of the dialogue, and agreed to actively cooperate on further steps—taking into account all matters of mutual interest.
