Russian ambassador to Armenia, Sergey Kopyrkin sent an open letter to Armenian defense minister Suren Papikyan.

The letter states as follows, in particular:

“Against the backdrop of the Armenian people’s deep respect for Victory Day, former official representative of the Armenian MoD, Artsrun Hovhannisyan’s historical lies and blasphemies, which have effectively justified the aggression of fascist Germany voiced by him on this holy day on the country’s main television channel, have become widely spread.

It was especially painful to hear such statements from the lips of a person who currently heads the Armenian MoD Military Academy’s Command and Staff Institute, which bears the name of the famous commander of the Great Patriotic War, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Marshal [Ivan (Hovhannes)] Baghramyan.

It is difficult to assess such an act as anything other than an attempt to desecrate the memory of our heroic ancestors, who prevented Hitler's plans to enslave and destroy the peoples of the USSR, as well as saved humanity from the ‘brown plague."’
