Large-scale arms purchases by Azerbaijan are a cause for concern. Opposition MP and a member of the former ruling Republican Party of Armenia, Tigran Abrahamyan, stated this during Friday’s press briefing in the National Assembly.

“I am very concerned that after the 44-day war [in the fall of 2020], Azerbaijan began to actively purchase weapons. Purchases from Israel, Turkey, Pakistan, and some European countries are especially noticeable,” the lawmaker noted.

And regarding Azerbaijan purchasing weapons from Russia, Abrahamyan said he had no information about any such deals with the Kremlin and their scale.

"Compared to previous decades, when a significant part of the purchases were reported by various international organizations or Azerbaijan itself, in recent years Azerbaijan has been keeping this information strictly confidential. And it remains only to figure out in the realm of assumptions as to specifically what weapons are being purchased and from which countries in general," Abrahamyan noted.

The Armenian opposition MP considered this a very important fact for assessing the military and political situation, as well as for correctly responding to the relevant threats.
