A cross-party committee of 19 MPs supporting the “Swiss Peace Initiative for Nagorno-Karabakh” will launch its work in Bern on May 26.

This committee will support the March 18 decision of the upper house of the Swiss parliament to implement the necessary international mechanisms for the realization of the right of return of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Armenians, and this decision has a legally binding meaning for Switzerland’s executive branch of power.

The initiative aims to support Switzerland’s commitment to “facilitate an open dialogue—under international supervision, or in the presence of important international actors—between Azerbaijan and representatives of the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians to negotiate the safe and collective return of the historically resident Armenian population.”

The aforesaid committee, which enjoys broad cross-party support, is headed by Swiss National Council members Erich Vontobel and Stefan Muller Altermatt.
