The US conducted a planned test of a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California—from where the launch took place—reported on Wednesday.

The missile was equipped with a single Mark-21 High Fidelity De-Entry warhead, DW reports.

The warhead traveled about 4,200 miles and reached the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site, located in Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands, in the central Pacific Ocean.

This test is part of routine and periodic activities designed to demonstrate that the US nuclear deterrent remains safe, secure, and effective in deterring 21st-century threats, and inspires confidence among US allies, the statement added.
