Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and there is no agenda of leaving that union. Economy minister Gevorg Papoyan stated this during the press briefing after Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government—and referring to Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan’s statement, during his joint press conference Wednesday with visiting Russian FM Sergey Lavrov, that Armenia has not submitted an application for European Union (EU) membership, and there are no negotiations in that regard.

"At the same time, we [i.e. Armenia] are bringing our legislations, regulations into line with the best regulations in the world. For example, next week, the NA [(National Assembly)] will pass four EU directives, which relate to the protection of consumer rights, competition. Now, if the EU has the best regulations for the protection of competition or the protection of consumer rights, should we not bring those regulations [to Armenia], not implement them here?" said Papoyan.

Also, the economy minister recalled that the political forces submitting the draft on the start of the process of Armenia's accession to the EU to the NA have no connection with the country’s ruling party and its parliamentary faction.

And as for the passing of the abovementioned draft by the NA, according to Papoyan, in this way, the Armenian authorities have expressed their position on the draft that had collected signatures from more than 50 thousand people in Armenia.
