Iran supports peace, it has supported the peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan also, and will continue to support, Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Sobhani said Thursday in Syunik Province of Armenia.

“We [i.e. Iran] believe that the signing of a peace agreement [Armenia and Azerbaijan] is in the interests of both countries and, also, in the interests of the region. We are ready to contribute to the signing of this agreement.

As you know, we have previously welcomed the Armenian prime minister’s Crossroads of Peace project. This can become an occasion for the unblocking of the region. This will contribute to the prosperity of the region. The basis of the economy is transportation, and this can greatly contribute to transportation in the region.

You know that we are not against unblocking; you know our position. But any unblocking should be under the national sovereignty of Armenia. I believe that [Crossroads of Peace] project also will contribute to the transportation of goods in the region. Everyone should welcome the peace agreement," added the Iranian ambassador to Armenia.
