US President Donald Trump said that within one and a half to two weeks Washington will decide on further tactics in negotiations to end the Ukrainian war.

The US head of state noted that this decision will largely depend on Russia's behavior. In two weeks he will be able to say whether Russian President Vladimir Putin is deceiving them. And if so, they will react differently Trump said. It seems Russia is ready for some kind of agreement. But nothing has been signed yet, it is too early to talk, the US president told reporters at the White House on Wednesday.

Trump added that he cannot say for sure now whether Putin is really interested in ending the conflict. Also, the US president once again stated that his Russian counterpart, striking peaceful cities in Ukraine, was playing with fire. Trump said he is very disappointed with what happened a few nights ago—with massive Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities, where people were killed.

In the context of diplomatic efforts, the US president said he was open to a possible meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin. Trump added, however, that he wishes this meeting had taken place a few months ago, now they are working with Putin, and they will see where it goes.

And asked why he did not impose new sanctions on Russia despite its continued military actions, Trump replied that he feel like a deal is close.
