With the support of the French side, numerous work has been carried out in Syunik: irrigation and drinking water pipelines have been built, huge investments have been made in the healthcare sector. In the context of funding projects, the French government supports Armenia. But on the other hand, Armenia is funding an unprecedented amount of work through various means. The governor of Armenia’s Syunik Province, Robert Ghukasyan, stated this in his remarks at the 5th Armenia-France Decentralized Cooperation Forum Monday in Goris city of Syunik.
"In Syunik Province alone, $1 billion worth of work is being carried out. This is very important. I would like to note that at the moment, so many schools are being built in Syunik Province all at once that there were none even during the Soviet Union. Such huge road construction work is being carried out that I cannot imagine when such an amount of work was carried out. That is, funding should ensure the implementation of ideas and programs that should be created within the framework of decentralized cooperation. But we forget the most important [thing]: our communities also have budgets and implement numerous programs," said the Syunik provincial governor, and expressed hope that in all cases where only funding is lacking, the issue will be resolved through joint efforts.
