Moscow supports peace in the South Caucasus and is ready to assist in the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, said Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikhail Yevdokimov.

"It is very important to Russia that there is peace in the South Caucasus. And thanks to the wisdom of [Azerbaijani president] Ilham Aliyev and his relations with [Russian president] Vladimir Putin, that peace has now been restored," Yevdokimov said in an interview with BakuTV, Interfax reports.

According to him, Moscow welcomes the achievement of an agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the text of a peace treaty and is interested in the process of normalizing of relations between these two countries.

The ambassador noted that Russia is ready to take all necessary measures to develop transport routes between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and to continue the border delimitation between them.

Yevdokimov added that relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are actively developing, and that the two countries have great potential for the development of their allied relations, too.
