US President Donald Trump has called an emergency cabinet meeting after Israel's strikes on Iran. The White House has not yet commented on the latest developments, Axios reports.

Trump will hold a National Security Council meeting in the White House Situation Room at 11am Friday to discuss Israel's strikes on Iran, the White House said.

Trump held a cabinet meeting on Thursday evening after Israel carried out "preemptive strikes" on Iran.

The meeting was devoted to developing a US response to the escalation of the situation in the Middle East.

Earlier in the day, Trump had warned during a question-and-answer session with reporters that a large-scale conflict in the Middle East could break out very soon.

While Trump did not say that escalation was inevitable, he emphasized that it could absolutely happen.
