The commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran, Major General Hossein Salami, and several other military personnel and civilians were killed in the Israeli strikes on capital Tehran, IRNA reports.

Tasnim news agency had reported early Friday morning that Salami was killed in an Israeli strike overnight.

No further details were provided at the time.

Later, the IRGC issued a statement and officially confirmed Salami's death.

The statement said that the IRGC, some other branches of the Iranian armed forces, and the Islamic Ummah forces were ready to give a harsh response to Israel.

Nuclear physicist and Islamic Azad University president Mohammad-Mehdi Tehranchi and another nuclear scientist and former head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Fereydoun Abbasi, were also killed in separate Israeli strikes, Tasnim reports.

In addition, according to Tasnim, the commander of Khatam al-Anbia headquarters, Major General Gholamali Rashid, was also killed in Israeli strikes.

These strikes targeted some other targets in Tehran, its suburbs, and several other Iranian cities, too.
