Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy left the G7 summit in Canada without securing the support he had hoped for, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Tuesday.

The daily noted that US President Donald Trump’s early departure from the summit overshadowed the participation of Zelenskyy, who had arrived in Kananaskis after the US leader had left Canada. Some Western officials are concerned that the US is seeking to strengthen relations with Russia and is reducing aid to Ukraine, the WSJ added.

Also, the newspaper drew attention to the difference between previous G7 statements and the statement issued on Tuesday by the chairman of the G7 summit, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. As the G7 failed to agree on a statement on Ukraine, the Canadian PM issued a separate statement saying that G7 leaders welcomed Trump's efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict and, also, wanted to increase pressure on Russia, including through sanctions. WSJ noted, however, that previous G7 statements contained harsher language.

Donald Trump had left the G7 summit on Monday—earlier than planned. The White House had said he had many important matters to resolve.
