The Armenian Red Cross Society has opened a first aid station at the Armenia-Iran border checkpoint in connection with the flow of people from Iran. Artur Hovhannesyan, Head of Information and Dissemination Department of the Armenian Red Cross Society, said this in an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“The Armenian Red Cross Society, as an organization supporting the state and as a humanitarian organization—by the way, one of the oldest organizations in Armenia, already 105 years old—has been here since morning. Of course, the disaster management department has conducted its assessment, inspected the area. At the moment, we have one first aid point deployed, and presumably we will deploy another one also.

First aid points are intended, of course, not only to provide first aid to people entering Armenia, but also to provide other humanitarian assistance and even for possible further long-term support. At the moment, there is some kind of water assistance, first aid or data collection, what exactly people need first. And according to the need, we also direct [them] to our central office, Paronyan [Street] 21/1 [in Yerevan], where our other partners are already introducing [them] to the support programs.

They contact us also via the hotline number. By the way, those who listen to us can also call the 81-84 telephone number in case of any questions. They can also apply by visiting the national society in person. Naturally, we are in constant contact with our partners working in the central office, and we have data that today about five to seven families have approached [us] and have already recorded their needs, what they need," said Hovhannesyan.

On June 13, Israel attacked Iran, and this was followed by retaliatory measures by Iran. Military actions between the two countries are continuing to this day.
