The Pashinyan-Erdogan meeting took place in a quite positive atmosphere, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am—and regarding the meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul, Turkey, last week.

“The two parties presented each other’s positions on both bilateral relations and regional developments in general. The Armenian party positively assesses the meeting,” Kostanyan said.

When asked how the Turkish president viewed Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace project, he replied: “Naturally, there was a discussion also about the opening of communications in the region, and both parties noted the importance of opening these communications.”

Regarding the remark that Azerbaijan continues to posit demands to Armenia, Turkey says that it is unlikely to normalize relations with Armenia until Azerbaijan's demands are met, and asked whether in this case there was a chance of normalizing relations and opening the borders, Vahan Kostanyan said: "It is a process that we shall work towards. At the same time, you know that the government of the Republic of Armenia is also purposefully working towards normalizing of relations with Azerbaijan."
