Member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) can raise matters in collective documents that do not reflect the position of each member state. This was stated by Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, as he commented on the recent OIC statement’s point against Armenia, Mehr reports.

"We [i.e. Iran] have always advocated peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Peace and security in the South Caucasus are important to us, we have good relations with these two countries. At the same time, we do not approve of the use of concepts and words in that specific statement. We believe that the use of those words [i.e., most likely, the phrase ‘Western Azerbaijani community’] is not appropriate at all," the Iranian MFA spox noted.
