Kaja Kallas, the Vice-President of the European Union (EU) Commission and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has explained the importance of normalizing of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan by the strengthening of ties between Europe and Central Asia. Kallas made such a statement at a press conference in Armenia’s capital Yerevan on Monday.

When asked whether the EU considers it important to sign a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan without delay, Kallas replied that the EU definitely encourages the process and, of course, would like to see it completed as soon as possible.

According to Kallas, they need more stability in the world, not only in the region. The EU foreign policy chief assured that she spoke about the same in the Azerbaijani capital Baku, too. When they discuss various options and the link between Europe and Asia, it is important to do it as soon as possible, as if nothing had happened, Kallas explained.

The EU foreign policy chief added that the European Union supports a settlement based on the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inviolability of borders, and that these principles have no alternative.
