The matter of stopping the broadcasting of Russian TV channels in Armenia should be seriously discussed. Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, told this to reporters on Tuesday, as he commented on the assessments of some Russian broadcasters, public and political figures regarding the events taking place in Armenia.
In particular, he expressed the opinion that some Russian TV programs harm Armenian-Russian relations.
“We had very good visits from the president of the Federation Council [of the Federal Assembly of Russia], Valentina Matvienko, and other [Russian] officials. Now some people, possibly being funded by Samvel Karapetyan [i.e. the Russian Armenian businessman and philanthropist who has been remanded in custody for two months in Armenia], are attempting to protect them. Let them not interfere in our internal affairs,” Simonyan added.
The NA speaker emphasized that such Russian TV programs and positions cause negative emotions not only in him, but also in the overwhelming majority of Armenia’s residents.
