The unblocking of transport infrastructure in the South Caucasus has been and remains an important priority for Armenia, said Ani Badalyan, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia, in response to a question from Azatutyun, the RFE/RL’s Armenian service.

Azatutyun had asked about Yerevan's view on the American proposal, and whether they had familiarized themselves with Baku's position as well in this regard.

According to a Carnegie report, the administration of US President Donald Trump has presented Yerevan and Baku with a proposal on the motorway connecting Azerbaijan with its Nakhichevan exclave through the territory of Armenia.

"As is known, Armenia has proposed its vision of regional connectivity, the ‘Crossroads of Peace’ [project], which has already received positive responses from a number of international partners. Moreover, Armenia has proposed a number of solutions in line with this initiative, which may be acceptable to all parties involved. At the same time, various international partners also periodically present their ideas on the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, including on the unblocking of transport infrastructure between the two countries," the Armenian MFA spokesperson noted.

According to Badalyan, discussions are continuing with all interested partners in order to achieve beneficial results that realize the region's intersectional potential.

Azerbaijan has not yet reacted to the Carnegie's report on the aforementioned proposal by the Trump administration.
