Some forces in Europe are attempting to spoil Moscow-Baku relations, believes Grigory Karasin, Chair of the Russian Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs. This is how the Russian senator reacted, in an interview with Lenta.ru, to the arrest of several Russians in Azerbaijan on suspicion of drug trafficking and cybercrime.

“The issues of bruises and cuts should be investigated by professionals: the Investigative Committee, the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The important thing is something else. Some forces in Europe, including in the Caucasus, are attempting to torpedo all the good that has been achieved in recent years in relations between Russia and Azerbaijan. The same is happening, by the way, with Armenia as well,” Karasin said.

According to the Russian senator, the pressure on this issue is organized and is being carried out on a wide front.

“We must rely on sound approaches and on the fact that we have all the opportunities to resolve this whole situation constructively. There is no need to sow hatred because this is precisely the task of those forces in the West and the Caucasus that seek to bring the peoples of the former Soviet Union into disagreements. We must not allow this to happen,” Karasin added.
