Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkiyan said that further cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will depend on whether the organization stops applying double standards when considering Iran's nuclear dossier.

He said this in a telephone conversation with European Council President António Costa, according to IRNA.

Pezeshkiyan stressed that Iran's previous cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog was based on the principles of transparency and good faith.

The two discussed recent international developments, including Israel's recent 12-day war against Iran, as well as the prospects for relations between Tehran and the European Union.

Pezeshkian assured that Iran remains committed to constructive engagement, regional peace, and global stability, but warned that any new acts of aggression against Iran would be met with an even tougher response.

He called Israel's actions “criminal and destabilizing” and stressed that the Israeli and US attacks came just as Iran was promoting dialogue and diplomacy. According to him, it was Iran's decisive response that forced the aggressors to ask for a ceasefire.

Responding to Costa's concerns about Iran's reduced cooperation with the IAEA, Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran's commitment to dialogue, mutual respect, and international law. He explained that the recent parliamentary law suspending cooperation with the agency was a response to the “biased and unprofessional behavior” of the IAEA leadership.

According to the president, the agency's inability to remain neutral, its silence on attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, and its inaction in the face of violations of international law undermine its reputation. Under these circumstances, he added, membership in such international structures loses its meaning if it does not bring balanced benefits.

In turn, António Costa emphasized the EU's commitment to diplomacy and the rejection of double standards by international organizations. He also condemned Israel's human rights violations in Gaza, expressed condolences for the deaths of Iranian civilians in the latest Israeli attacks, and stressed the need to end the war and provide humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians.
