Iran opposes interference of extra-regional forces in the processes taking place in the South Caucasus, Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said during a press conference.

He once again confirmed that Tehran's position on the situation in the South Caucasus remains unchanged.

"We [i.e. Iran] are in favor of the signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan without delay. We support the development of [regional] transport links if they contribute to economic growth and do not affect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the states, as well as do not change the geopolitical picture of the region," Baghaei said.

According to the Iranian MFA spox, the interference of extra-regional players in the South Caucasus conflicts with the interests of the region's security and development.

Also, Esmail Baghaei assured that Iran is closely following the development of events and is in close contact with both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
