Of 186 countries, 154 can meet 2–5 of the 7 key food groups (fruits, vegetables, legumes, starchy foods, meat, fish, and dairy products) through domestic production. Nature Food reports.

Only Guyana has achieved self-sufficiency in all seven food groups, while China and Vietnam have achieved six.

Six countries, mainly in the Middle East — Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, the Special Administrative Region of Macau (China), Qatar, and Yemen — do not meet their needs in any food group.

More than a third of all countries are self-sufficient in two or fewer groups;

25 are in Africa, 10 in the Caribbean, and 7 in Europe. Only one in seven countries is self-sufficient in five or more food groups, most of them in Europe and South America.

According to NakedScience, Armenia is among the 50 most self-sufficient countries.
