US President Donald Trump believes that cutting Russia's 50-day deadline to reach an agreement with Ukraine is an appropriate negotiating tactic, a White House official told CNN.

According to the source, Trump considered it a good negotiating tactic to cut the initial 50-day deadline to just 10 days in order for Russia and Ukraine to reach a peaceful settlement.

The US president had previously said that he was giving Russia and Ukraine a 50-day deadline to reach an agreement, after which he intends to impose 100% trade tariffs on Moscow and its trading partners.

On Monday, however, Trump said that he was disappointed with Russia and the progress of the settlement process and that is why he is cutting the aforesaid deadline to 10-12 days.

And Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin had gotten familiarized with the US president's statement and taken it into account.
