Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in a phone conversation, reflected on the agreement on the implementation of the Caucasus transport corridor project, which also involves the US, and stressed that it is important to preserve Armenia's sovereignty in this matter and not allow any military or security structures to participate in the implementation of this project, the Iranian presidential administration informed, IRNA reports.

Also, Pezeshkian noted that it is necessary to be cautious about possible actions by the American side. Making this statement, he noted that it is indispensable to ensure that this Caucasus corridor actually becomes a path to peace and development, and not a tool for achieving the objectives of territorial expansion of foreign states.

During the phone conversation, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke in detail about the recently signed memorandum on peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as various aspects of the Caucasus transport corridor project, and expressed gratitude for the principled position of Iran and the 14th convocation of the government in maintaining the unity of the countries of the region.

 “The emphasis of the Islamic Republic of Iran on preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia is extremely valuable and important to us. We will not sign any agreement if we are not fully confident in preserving the interests, considerations, and feelings of the friendly and neighboring state of Iran,” the Armenian PM added.

Pashinyan emphasized that relations and cooperation with Iran have a special and exclusive place for Armenia, stated that Armenia views its relations with Iran as strategic, and said that all important decisions and actions will be made as a result of bilateral consultations and coordination.

“We have made transparency and honesty the fundamental principles of these relations, and this approach will always be maintained,” the Armenian PM added.

In turn, Pezeshkian also called the relations between Iran and Armenia “strategic,” and said the interaction between the two countries were constructive and based on good neighborliness and mutual respect for territorial integrity. He noted that principled and reasonable approaches have always been a solid foundation for the strengthening of friendly and strategic ties between Tehran and Yerevan, and any attempt to undermine these historical and deep relations will be resolutely rejected and recognized as unacceptable by both countries.

In addition, Pezeshkian o emphasized that Iran welcomes any agreement that contributes to the strengthening of peace, especially between the countries of the region.

Referring to the agreement on the implementation of the transport corridor project with the participation of the US in the Caucasus, the Iranian president once again emphasized the preservation of Armenia’s sovereignty and the non-participation of any military and power structures within its framework, as well as warned of the need for special caution and supervision over possible actions of the American side, which, hiding behind statements about economic investments and support for peace, may pursue expansionist goals in the Caucasus. He added that it is necessary to ensure that this path truly becomes a path of peace and development, and not a tool for implementing the aggressive intentions of foreigners.

The Iranian president, emphasizing the value and importance of good-neighborly relations, especially between Iran, Azerbaijan and Armenia, stated that their continuation and strengthening depend on vigilance, coordination, unity, and the absence of any foreign interference. He noted that Iran has always considered common interests a priority in regional relations, especially with its neighbors, and is confident that such an approach will be considered a top priority in neighboring countries as well.
