Russia maintains continued contacts with Iran on security issues in the South Caucasus. This was stated by Alexey Fadeev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), during a press briefing.

According to him, Moscow has carefully studied Iran's statements regarding the recent summit of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States in Washington DC, and sees various nuances and emphases in these statements.

As per Fadeev, the optimal solution to the problems of the South Caucasus is to find and implement solutions developed by the countries of the region—and with the assistance of their immediate neighbors.

"The engagement of third-party players shall only contribute to the strengthening of the peace agenda, and not create additional difficulties and dividing lines," added Alexey Fadeev.
