Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will step into the Oval Office of the White House on Monday for one of the most consequential meetings of his presidency, writes the Financial Times (FT).

This is a chance to reset relations with US President Donald Trump, ensure a fair end to the war with Russia, and consolidate US guarantees for Ukraine's future security, according to FT.

It noted that in addition to the specific details of the meeting, the tone of today's talk between the leaders of Ukraine and the US—whose history of relations is full of storms—will be no less important.

A senior official close to the Ukrainian president told the FT that Zelenskyy’s objective in the Oval Office talks would be to build an effective peace settlement process without pressuring Ukraine to take impossible steps, such as withdrawing troops from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

The official added that to achieve this, the Ukrainian president is ready to make acceptable compromises along the current front line that might be acceptable to Ukrainians.
