Armenia and Iran have reached an agreement on the construction of a second bridge over the Arax River. This was stated in an interview with Tasnim by Iranian Minister of Transport and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh, who is in the Armenian capital Yerevan as part of an official Iranian delegation.

Sadegh noted that preliminary agreements have been reached on the construction of a second bridge in Noraduz, the reconstruction of the existing bridge, the improvement of border terminals, and the revision of tolls for trucks.

“These steps will facilitate the work of freight forwarders and form a complete transit package. The package will be completed in the coming months,” the Iranian minister said.

According to her, special attention is being paid to railway projects. Sadegh stressed that the railway line connecting the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea is of strategic importance. In Iran, this railway already reaches Julfa, and the Julfa-Yerevan route has been approved.

In addition, the parties are going to prepare a memorandum in air transportation. Given Armenia's lack of access to the sea, cooperation in port infrastructure is also on the respective agenda. For this, it is planned to use the logistical potential of southern Iranian ports located on the coasts of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

"These initiatives will create a solid foundation for the development of transit transportation between Iran, Armenia, Europe, and East Asia," Sadegh noted.

Also, the agreement on the development of the Persian Gulf-Black Sea motorway and railway corridor was agreed in Yerevan.
