Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had announced a rally on July 20 in the center of the spiritual capital of Armenia, Etchmiadzin.

According to the authorities’ plan, this rally was to develop into “liberation of the Patriarchal Veharan [i.e. the official residence and workplace of the Catholicos of All Armenians].”

The matter was reaching large-scale clashes, but Pashinyan took a break and left for Washington to sign documents with Azerbaijan and the US.

It is nearly the end of summer, but the premier is still silent on the matter.

The opposition representatives, however, are confident that a new round of the authorities’ attempts to discredit the Armenian Apostolic Church is ahead.
