The Washington agreements recorded that there is now peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated by in an interview with journalist Petros Ghazaryan.

The Armenian FM noted that the future signing and ratification of this document is planned.

“The land through which the infrastructure will pass through the territory of our Armenia will belong to Armenia,” Mirzoyan said.

The FM noted that Armenia has sovereign territories which are now under Azerbaijani control, and Azerbaijan has territories, which are under Armenian control.

“The constitution [of Armenia] was not discussed in Washington, and we have no obligation before any third party to change our constitution,” Mirzoyan added.

To note, Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev had stated as follows: "Formally, the peace agreement was not signed for one particular reason: there is still a provision in the Armenian constitution that casts doubt on Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

“So, they [i.e. Armenia] will make an amendment, as far as we understand. As soon as this amendment to the constitution is made and territorial claims to Azerbaijan are deducted from the constitution, the formal peace agreement will be signed."
