The Armenian foreign minister did not give a clear answer as to why the peace treaty with Azerbaijan was initialed, not signed on August 8 in Washington. In an interview with the Public Television Company, Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized that peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan has become a reality since August 8.

“We are not saying that an agreement has been signed. Yes, it has been initialed, there will be actions. But I suppose the subsequent phases of signing, ratification may not even be able to outweigh the initialing in their weight. Why was it initialed, not signed?

We still need to nurture, grow that peace, there are questions, there is work ahead, there is a lot to do. There is no provision in the peace treaty that is essentially good for one country and essentially bad for another country,” the Armenian FM said.
