It is obvious that Netanyahu’s statement has nothing to do with the interests of either the Republic of Armenia or the people, or the Armenian people. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at the press briefing after Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government—and referring to the fact that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday officially announced that Israel recognizes the Armenian Genocide.

“And, in general, we need to understand: do we want the recognition or non-recognition of the Armenian Genocide to be a geopolitical coin in the hands of others, which has nothing to do with the interests of our state and the interests of the people? Do we want the Armenian Genocide to be something expressed in an interview as a result of coincidence or confusion? I do not want us to put our martyrs in such a status. We must focus on the interests of our state,” Pashinyan added.

“So many countries have recognized the Armenian Genocide. Let’s now take stock of what Armenia has gained from it, what we have received from it. That is, is our objective to give others the opportunity to use our martyrs as a means of payment in geopolitical trade?” the Armenian premier noted.

According to Pashinyan, he has spoken with international colleagues on this topic, even tried to understand the position of the leaders of some countries on the question of why they recognize the Armenian Genocide, with what motivation. And, according to him, the main motivation was to get more votes in political elections, which, according to the PM, has nothing to do with the interests of the people of Armenia.
