Any action to change recognized borders, create forced corridors, or implement projects such as the “Zangezur corridor” contradicts the interests of the countries of the region and poses a direct threat to collective security, the Iranian parliament has said in a statement, Tasnim reports.

The statement reads as follows:

“The Islamic Parliamentary Majlis (Parliament) emphasizes the strategic position of the South Caucasus for the country. This region is not only a geographical border, but also part of Iran’s security perimeter, strategic depth, and civilizational sphere. It has had strong historical, cultural, and military-political ties with Iran for centuries, and to this day plays a vital role in ensuring territorial integrity and ensuring national security.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, guided by its unwavering principles, has always sought to resolve regional issues through direct dialogue between the countries of the region, without the intervention of extra-regional forces.

Any action to change recognized borders, create forced corridors, or implement projects such as the ‘Zangezur corridor’ contradicts the interests of the countries of the region and poses a direct threat to collective security.

Referring to indisputable international principles, the Islamic Parliamentary Majlis recalls that any change in internationally recognized borders without the consent of the governments concerned is a clear violation of the UN Charter and the principle of territorial integrity of countries.

The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to use all political, legal, and legitimate means to decisively defend itself in the event of an attack on Iran—for its security and national interests.

The South Caucasus is of vital importance not only in terms of security, but also as an important energy, transit, and economic route for Iran and the entire region. Any economic and transit project aimed at weakening Iran’s geopolitical position is unacceptable. Iran considers it important to take into account the interests of all countries in the region, respecting their national sovereignty.

We call on all countries in the region to uphold the principle of good neighborliness, avoid actions that create tension, and expand regional cooperation without the presence of foreign states. The development of economic and transit relations will be stable only within the existing borders and on the basis of mutual respect.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to contribute to the settlement of the situation in the South Caucasus, cooperating with all regional parties. Representatives of the Iranian people will respond to any threat.”
