The meeting of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk in Yerevan on August 20 was held in a professional, sincere, and constructive atmosphere. Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), stated this during a press briefing Friday.

“Many aspects of economic cooperation were specifically discussed both in a bilateral format and within the EAEU [i.e. the Eurasian Economic Union]. The tasks of the supply of certain types of goods—in particular, food—were discussed in detail,” Zakharova added.

“It was possible to reach an agreement on some nuances in the context of the incompatibility of EU [i.e. European Union] technical regulations and the norms of the Eurasian Economic Union. Also, the parties agreed on further steps in this domain, in accordance with the allied nature of bilateral relations,” said the Russian MFA spox.

“These talks showed that Armenia is interested in the rhythmic functioning of the Eurasian integration mechanisms, which play a crucial role in ensuring the socioeconomic stability of this country. Armenian manufacturers feel the practical benefits of participating in the [Eurasian Economic] Union, understand the importance of unhindered access of goods to the market of the EAEU countries, including Russia,” Zakharova added.

“Over the past ten years, the amount of trade between Armenia and the [other] EAEU member states has increased by about ten times, and the [Armenian] republic’s economic growth rates—until recently—were among the highest in the world,” concluded the Russian MFA spox.
