Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan believes that Azerbaijan and Armenia “have reached the final point in the peace process,” RIA Novosti reports.

According to him, the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan will “positively affect” the region.

“I believe that the South Caucasus, God willing, will find its long-awaited peace. During my meeting with [Azerbaijani President] Mr. Ilham Aliyev, I saw that hope in his eyes. The signing of the agreement in the White House [on August 8] has undoubtedly accelerated the process of normalizing of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan and Armenia have considerably overcome the obstacles on the path to peace and have reached the final point,” the Turkish president told reporters upon returning from China, where he attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

According to Erdogan, on the sidelines of this summit, he held "detailed negotiations" with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and then with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
