The Washington agreements are a very important event which will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the situation in Armenia’s region and beyond. Ruben Rubinyan, deputy speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia and the country's special envoy in the process of normalizing of Armenian-Turkish relations, stated this while speaking with reporters, and added that Yerevan is optimistic in this regard.

Asked whether the matter of reopening the Armenia-Turkey border will be discussed at his upcoming meeting with the Turkish special envoy, Rubinyan noted that the entire aforementioned process, as a whole, is aimed at this and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

When asked about the failure to implement the agreement to reopen the border at least for the citizens of other countries, the Armenian official was noted that this agreement remained unimplemented.

“It’s not our [i.e. Armenia’s] fault, but we hope that it will be implemented,” added Ruben Rubinyan.
