Skoda has announced that the production version of its Vision O concept will be offered primarily as an electric vehicle (EV), but the company leaves open the possibility of using other powertrains if legislation allows, reports Autocar.

The new universal car, which will be released at the beginning of the next decade, will be Skoda's first model on the new Volkswagen Group SSP platform. The latter is initially focused on EVs, but can support various hybrid schemes, as shown by the Cupra Tindaya concept.

Earlier, Skoda had planned a universal EV on the MEB platform, but the project was postponed. According to Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto, autonomous driving functions are important for long journeys, which are easier to implement on the new platform. He added that the pace of the transition to EVs has not yet met expectations, and Skoda is leaving all options open, taking into account customer wishes and regulatory requirements.

The Vision O is 4,850 mm long, which is longer than the current Octavia Estate (4,698 mm), but slightly shorter than the Superb (4,902 mm). The trunk holds more than 650 liters, but with the seats folded, the volume exceeds 1,700 liters.

The concept’s design showcases the next generation of Skoda’s Modern Solid theme, including a "Tech-loop" face mask with integrated lighting elements and an illuminated logo on the hood, as well as T-shaped LED headlights at the rear. There are retractable door handles, integrated air vents, and sculpted side channels to improve aerodynamics.

The interior is focused on customer needs: a wide digital Horizon Display dashboard, a vertical central touchscreen, a minimalist dashboard with haptic buttons, and physical controls retained on the steering wheel. The concept supports autonomous driving through Laura, an AI-powered personal assistant, which manages all driving functions, signals, and route recommendations.

In addition, comfort features are provided: built-in sunshades, a refrigerator, a charging cable compartment, and a portable speaker. The interior materials include recycled PES and 65% vegetable-derived Ultrasuede, which emphasize the model’s environmental friendliness.
