Last week, delegations of the deputy prime ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan met in the border area of the two countries—in the southern parts of Armenia’s Syunik Province and Azerbaijan’s Zangelan Region, the office of Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan stated in response to a written inquiry by Azatutyun, the RFE/RL’s Armenian service, it reports.

The delegations included representatives—from the Ministry of Defense, the National Security Service, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Territorial Administration—of the Commission on Delimitation and Border Security of the State Border of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

But the office of Grigoryan did not respond clearly as to when, where, and what agenda the next meeting of these commissions is scheduled for, and noted only that this is still under discussion.

Azatutyun had asked also whether, given the agreement reached in Washington on the Syunik road, the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border will not continue from Armenia's Tavush Province, as announced at the beginning of the year, but from Syunik. This question also was not answered directly, emphasizing once again that this matter is also under discussion.
