Special Representative for the normalization process between Turkey and Armenia, Ambassador Serdar Kılıç, said that the Armenian side is positive about opening the border, Anadolu reports.

“Before implementing some projects, several technical works need to be carried out, but otherwise we have no problems with the intentions,” he said.

Kılıç, who arrived in Igdir for a series of meetings in Armenia, spent some time in the office of Governor Ercan Turan.

In his statement to journalists, Ambassador Kılıç noted that certain work is being carried out between him and the special representative in Armenia: “We will consider these opportunities and determine what can be done for the economic life of the two countries, especially this region.”

Noting the importance of the functioning of the “Zangezur corridor,” Kılıç added:

"This line of communication is particularly important. The Zangezur line is important not only for Armenia and Turkey, but also for the whole of Central Asia and the Turkic republics in terms of opening up new opportunities. In accordance with the instructions of the President of Turkey, in the short term, we want to open this line and contribute to the economies of the two countries, especially the development of Igdir and Kars." 

According to him, the Armenian side also has a positive attitude towards these issues. “Today, they made a statement that they are ready to open the border. Of course, they have a positive attitude towards what is beneficial for everyone. Before implementing some projects, it is necessary to carry out a number of technical works, but in terms of intentions, we have no problems,” he said. 

Igdir Governor Ercan Turan also mentioned that the city borders three countries: "In our province, this process is generally viewed with enthusiasm. Under the leadership of our respected president, very serious and constructive negotiations have been held with all our neighbors along the border. We have the Alijan border crossing, and we recently laid the foundation for the 124-kilometer Dilijan-Kars railway, which is connected to the Zangezur corridor."

Kılıç and his accompanying delegation will travel to Armenia via the Margara-Alican border crossing and hold a series of meetings in the Armenian capital Yerevan, Anadolu reports.
