President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan received a delegation led by the vice chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Su Hui, the president’s office informs.

President Khachaturyan welcomed the guests and noted: "I am glad to welcome you to the residence of the President of the Republic [of Armenia]. I hope that this visit will contribute to the further development of relations between our countries.

Armenian-Chinese relations can be viewed at two levels. The first is the ties between our peoples that have a history of thousands of years, which have formed an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect, and this tradition continues to this day. The second is the diplomatic relations between the Republic of Armenia and the People's Republic of China, which began in 1992.

The high-level meetings held in China in recent days have raised bilateral political relations to the level of strategic partnership. Relations with China are one of the important directions of our foreign policy, and cooperation within the framework of strategic partnership will open up new opportunities for our countries.”

In turn, Su Hui expressed gratitude for the reception and noted: “First of all, let me convey the warm greetings of President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China to you. In a few days, Armenia will celebrate the 34th anniversary of its Independence, and, on this occasion, I would also like to convey President Xi Jinping’s congratulatory message. On behalf of my delegation, I would also like to congratulate you and your colleagues on this important holiday.”

During the meeting, various directions of Armenian-Chinese relations were touched upon. Both sides emphasized that economic ties have been developing dynamically in recent years, and there are broad opportunities for new initiatives, including the promotion of investment programs, and cooperation in infrastructure and high technology.

It was also noted that the effective partnership formed between the two countries on international platforms contributes to the protection of mutual interests and the strengthening of bilateral political dialogue.

Turning to the humanitarian domain, the parties underscored the full realizing of the potential for cooperation in education and science. In this regard, the activities of the Armenian-Chinese Friendship School in Yerevan, which has been playing an important role in expanding cultural and educational ties between the two peoples for many years, were highlighted as a successful example.

Also, President Vahagn Khachaturyan expressed gratitude to the Chinese people and authorities for their humanitarian and development assistance provided to Armenia over the years.

During the conversation, regional realities were also touched upon. In this context, the implementation of the Crossroads of Peace project launched by Armenia—and which can create new opportunities for the restoration of transport and economic ties as well as for the establishment of stability and long-term peace in the region—was discussed.
