For the first time, it has become possible to bring peace to the South Caucasus, and that is the purpose and reason for my visit. The European Union (EU) Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, who is visiting Armenia, said this during Friday’s joint news conference with Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, and adding that they are ready to continue efforts in the Armenia-EU partnership.

The partnership for peace is very important, we must continue to seize the opportunity and invest in transport, connectivity, as well as digitalization. And it is also time to invest in the peace process, Kos said.

When we talk about economic developments, about cooperation in theoretical relations, we often forget how important it is to live in peace. Europe is based on peace and is a partner for peace. The South Caucasus and Armenia are a very important part of the changes that will change the situation in Europe and the South Caucasus, noted the EU Commissioner for Enlargement.

The EU is providing funding for the second phase of the Resilience and Growth Plan for Armenia. It is about more than €200 million which will boost investments in connectivity, resilience, and business development. This is evidence of Armenia’s commitment to a clear reform agenda. This also demonstrates the country’s clear commitment to implementing reforms in key domains, Kos added.

According to her, the EU is ready to assist Armenia in transport, digitalization, trade, energy and infrastructure projects, in line with the Crossroads of Peace project of the country.

Also, Kos stressed that investing in the peace process is one of the EU’s priorities.

The EU Commissioner for Enlargement noted that more than €2.5 billion in investments had already been mobilized for Armenia since 2021.

In addition, she informed that an agreement has been signed with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) aimed at improving customs operations, as well as assisting the needs of refugees and their host communities.

Marta Kos added that the EU is actively working on developing an international and interregional connectivity agenda, connecting Europe with Central Asia also through the South Caucasus, including Armenia.
