Avagyan was found unconscious in the toilet, where he had been for about 50 minutes. Later, doctors pronounced him dead.
Boris Avagyan was accused in Russia of evading customs payments. He had fled the court under the pretext of “going out to smoke.”
The Kronstadt District Court of Saint Petersburg had declared Avagyan wanted on charges of evading customs payments, Darya Lebedeva, head of the United Press Service of Saint Petersburg Courts, told RBC. Avagyan had fled the court building.
Pastinfo had reported Tuesday that Boris Avagyan had contacted them, and stated that he was at the Armenian consulate in Saint Petersburg.
“Over the past month, the Russian Federation special police officers have arrested me, taken me to the police station to check documents, as Armenia has issued an arrest warrant for me. I voluntarily want to be extradited to Armenia,” he had said.
When asked whether criminal prosecution had been declared against him in Armenia, and whether he was afraid that he will be arrested in Armenia, Avagyan had said that this was his objective.
“Let them arrest me and conduct an investigation, then the court will decide whether I am guilty or not,” he had said.
Boris Avagyan was wanted in Armenia for illegal border crossing and money laundering.
