Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, on Wednesday met with the speaker of the Congress of Deputies of Spain, Francina Armengol Socias, in Madrid, Armenian News-NEWS.am was informed by the NA.

The focus of the interlocutors’ discussions was on the development of Armenia-Spain relations, with particular emphasis on the activation of inter-parliamentary ties, as well as cooperation in the economic, educational, and high-tech sectors. Reference was also made to Armenia-EU relations, matters regarding the visa liberalization process, and the ongoing democratic reforms in Armenia.

Also, special importance was attached to the peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan established in Washington, in the context of which the speaker of the Congress of Deputies of Spain lauded the respective signed documents, and noted that Spain is in favor of peace in the region.

Simonyan, for his part, drew the attention of his colleague to the issue of Armenian captives and persons illegally held in Azerbaijan, and highlighted the issue of those considered missing.
