Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan on Wednesday met with Chaloka Beyani, the UN Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, on the margins of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Armenian News-NEWS.am was informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

The meeting was attended also by Mo Bleeker, the UN Special Adviser on the Responsibility to Protect.

The interlocutors commended the cooperation established between Armenia and the UN Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect.

The deputy FM emphasized that the genocide prevention agenda remains among key priorities of Armenia, and affirmed the country’s willingness to maintain active engagement in strengthening the respective early warning and action mechanisms, as well as in advancing international human rights and humanitarian law. In this regard, the Prevention of Genocide resolution tabled by Armenia was highlighted as an important step to reinforcing the international agenda on the prevention of genocide and mass atrocities.

The parties touched also upon the prospects for cooperation between Armenia and the Office of Special Adviser in the framework of the resolution on the Tenth anniversary of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of This Crime, tabled by Armenia and adopted by consensus at the 79th plenary session of the UN General Assembly.
