The body of former Saint Petersburg, Russia official Boris Avagyan, who was found on Wednesday in the building of the Armenian consulate in Saint Petersburg, is now in the morgue and will be sent for an autopsy, Russian law enforcement officials told RIA Novosti.

"Avagyan's body is in the morgue and a forensic medical examination will be scheduled to determine the cause of death," a source told the aforesaid news agency.

Daria Lebedeva, head of the joint press service of the Saint Petersburg courts, had informed on Tuesday that Boris Avagyan, the former deputy head of the Saint Petersburg office of Rosreestr, Russia's official cadastre and cartography agency, had fled from the Kronstadt District Court of Saint Petersburg, where he had been taken for a pretrial detention hearing. The prosecution had filed a motion for his arrest, and he was declared wanted.

Later, it became known about Avagyan’s death in the building of the Armenian consulate in Saint Petersburg; according to preliminary information, he had committed suicide. Also, a source in the emergency services had reported that a knife was found near the body of this former official.

To note, Boris Avagyan previously had served as the Nagorno-Karabakh president’s representative-at-large.
