Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Monday met with the President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), Mattias Guyomar, in Strasbourg, France, the PM’s office informs.

The premier lauded the key role of the ECtHR in the European system of human rights protection, and underscored Armenia’s membership in the Council of Europe and the ECtHR, which is one of the pillars of strengthening democracy and the rule of law.

Also, the PM presented the process of judicial and legal reforms being implemented by the Armenian government, and emphasized their targeted direction: increasing the independence, efficiency, and accountability of Armenia’s justice system.

In turn, Guyomar positively assessed the reforms underway in Armenia, and expressed confidence that they will contribute to raising the level of human rights protection. He reaffirmed the readiness of the ECtHR to continue close cooperation with Armenia.

During the talk, the parties discussed as well matters related to the application of ECtHR case law, and touched upon the prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in the establishment of the justice system and the protection of human rights.
