The entry of international brands into Armenia is a priority for the Armenian government. And since tourism is also an important branch of the economy for us, and we have a strategic goal to exceed at least 3 million in the coming years, in particular to have 3 million or more tourists in 2030-2031, it is very important for many brands, including companies providing tourism, transport services, to come to Armenia, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan told reporters during the opening ceremony of the Wizz Air airline’s base in Armenia Wednesday.

“This is a very important step to bring our citizens closer to the world and, on the other hand, bring the world closer to Armenia. If we want to have tourists, first of all, that tourist should reach Armenia as easily, as affordably, and as quickly as possible.

(…). Therefore, this is a very good opportunity for us, on the one hand, to facilitate the entry of our citizens into the world, and on the other hand, to make it very fast, very easy and very affordable for citizens of various countries of the world to come to Armenia.

The basing institution is also a very important step here. We have a proposal to business: we say that if one million or more tourists come to Armenia, then we pay them a certain amount of money for it. And one of the conditions is that there must be a new destination. One of those new destinations was the flight from [Armenia’s] Gyumri to [Cyprus’] Larnaca, which was launched yesterday.

One of the important conditions is that the planes must be based in the Republic of Armenia. Here we see that the A-321 Neo plane, and it seems that there will even be a second one. Armenia, Yerevan, Zvartnots [International] Airport will be the permanent base for new modern aircraft, which is also a very important investment for the Republic of Armenia,” the economy minister emphasized.
