The Zhoghovurd newspaper of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows, in particular: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Investigative Committee [of Armenia] have responded to Zhoghovurd’s inquiries regarding the tragic case of Boris Avagyan, who was found dead in the building of Armenia’s consulate in [Russia’s] Saint Petersburg.

Let us recall that on September 24, the Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)] president’s former representative-at-large, former deputy mayor of [Armenia’s] Artik [city], Boris Avagyan, was found dead in the Saint Petersburg consulate [of Armenia].

Before that, Avagyan had released a video stating that he was in the consulate and was requesting to be extradited to Armenia. Responding to Zhoghovurd’s inquiry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs [of Armenia] informed that criminal proceedings have been initiated in the RA Investigative Committee (IC) regarding the incident.

The ministry did not provide details on the grounds and timing of the proceedings. In response to our inquiry, the Investigative Committee informed Zhoghovurd daily that criminal proceedings have been initiated by the RA IC into the case of the death of a person.

The lawyer claims that Avagyan could not have committed suicide, and the Russian press had written about problems regarding debt. Zhoghovurd daily learned that the circumstances of the case continue to be investigated in cooperation with law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation. But, in any case, Boris Avagyan’s death was very mysterious.
