A magnitude 5.3 earthquake on the Richter scale shook Isfahan Province in central Iran on Friday night, which was also felt in capital Tehran and Qom city, Mehr reports.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers from the earth surface and was also felt in parts of Tehran and Qom in the north of Isfahan. Mehr correspondents reported tremors being felt in Damavand, Absard, Kilan, Varamin, and Fasham in Tehran Province.

At first, some unofficial channels mistakenly reported the epicenter of the earthquake was Fasham in Tehran, but it was later reported to be Zavareh in Isfahan Province. The quake struck at midnight local time.
